Medigap Plans 2026: Comparing Plans G, N and F
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are standardized by the federal government, so a Plan G from one insurance company has the same core benefits as a Plan G from another. What differs is the monthly premium, how the company prices over time, and customer service. Here is how the most common plans compare in 2026.
Comparing Medigap Plans G, N and F for 2026

*Plan F (and Plan C) can only be bought by people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Plan G
Plan G covers all the gaps in Original Medicare except the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026). After you meet that deductible, Plan G pays the rest of your share for Medicare-approved services, including Part B excess charges. Many people new to Medicare look at Plan G because it is the most complete plan they can buy.
High-deductible Plan G
High-deductible Plan G has the same benefits as Plan G after you pay a yearly deductible of $2,950 in 2026. Premiums are usually lower. Your Part B deductible counts toward the $2,950.
Plan N
Plan N usually has a lower premium than Plan G in exchange for some cost sharing: the Part B deductible, copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits that do not result in admission, and Part B excess charges if a doctor does not accept Medicare assignment. See Plan G vs Plan N.
Plan F
Plan F also covers the Part B deductible, but it is only available to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you already have Plan F, you can generally keep it.
Plans K and L: built-in out-of-pocket limits
Plans K and L pay a share (50% or 75%) of many costs and have yearly out-of-pocket limits: $8,000 for Plan K and $4,000 for Plan L in 2026.
When to buy a Medigap plan
Your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period starts the first month you have Part B and are 65 or older. During it, insurers cannot deny you or charge more for health reasons. Medigap plans do not include drug coverage, so most people also add a Part D plan. Read Medicare and pre-existing conditions.
How premiums are priced
Insurers price Medigap policies in one of three ways: community-rated (same price regardless of age), issue-age-rated (based on your age when you buy) or attained-age-rated (rises as you age). Premiums for the same plan letter can vary a lot between companies, so compare quotes.

Frequently asked questions
