Frequently asked questions

Is Medigap or Medicare Advantage better?

Neither is better for everyone. Medigap offers broad doctor choice and predictable costs for a higher premium; Medicare Advantage often has lower premiums but uses networks and copays.

Can I have Medigap and Medicare Advantage at the same time?

No. Medigap policies only work with Original Medicare, and it is illegal for anyone to sell you a Medigap policy if they know you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Does Medicare Advantage have an out-of-pocket maximum?

Yes. Every Medicare Advantage Plan has a yearly limit on what you pay for covered Part A and Part B services. Original Medicare alone has no such limit, which is one reason people buy Medigap.

Can I switch from Medicare Advantage back to Original Medicare?

Yes, during Fall Open Enrollment or the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. Buying a Medigap policy at that point may require health questions in most states.
